Games art and design is the creative specialism concerned with the visual world of games: the characters, environments, props, user interfaces, and visual effects that create the aesthetic experience players inhabit. Games art is distinct from other forms of digital art in that it must function in real-time, within technical constraints, and in a way that serves gameplay as well as looking compelling. It draws on illustration, concept art, 3D modelling, texturing, animation, and visual design, combining traditional artistic skills with proficiency in digital tools and an understanding of game engines and production pipelines.
