BAcc Accountancy and Business Studies
About this course
Accountancy and business studies is a combination that equips you with both the technical financial rigour of the accounting profession and the broader commercial and organisational understanding that effective business leadership requires. Accountancy sits at the core of every organisation's decision-making: it provides the information that managers use to allocate resources, assess performance, manage risk and plan for the future. Business studies widens that lens to include strategy, marketing, operations, human resource management and the contexts in which firms operate. At the University of Stirling, this four-year full-time programme allows you to develop deep competence in both disciplines. You will study financial and management accounting, auditing, taxation and the regulatory frameworks that govern financial reporting, alongside the core disciplines of business strategy, organisational behaviour and management. Stirling's four-year Scottish degree structure gives you time to develop genuine expertise and to explore both subjects with depth. A year abroad is available, giving you the opportunity to gain international academic and personal experience that broadens your perspective on how business and accounting practice varies across different regulatory and cultural environments. The combination is also practically significant for professional qualification purposes. Exemptions from some of the examinations of major accounting bodies are commonly associated with accredited accountancy degrees, which can reduce the time it takes to qualify professionally after graduation. Analytical, numerical and communication skills are developed throughout, as is the capacity for careful, evidence-based judgement. Graduates from accountancy and business programmes move into chartered accountancy, audit, management accounting, financial management, taxation, corporate finance, and a wide range of general management roles. The financial literacy and business acumen the degree develops are valued across all sectors, and postgraduate study in accounting, finance, business or law is a natural next step for those who want to specialise further or pursue professional qualifications.
