BSc Accountancy
About this course
Accountancy is the professional framework through which organisations record, report and interpret their financial activity, and it is the foundation of informed decision-making in business, public services and the not-for-profit sector. At the highest level, it requires not just technical mastery of financial reporting and taxation, but a deep understanding of governance, ethics, commercial strategy and the regulatory environments within which organisations operate. A degree in accountancy, designed with professional qualification in mind, is one of the most direct routes into a profession that offers both strong graduate earnings and genuine long-term career development. At Queen Mary University of London, this four-year full-time programme was developed in partnership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and is professionally accredited by the ICAEW. Successful graduates will have completed twelve of the fifteen modules of the ICAEW Associate Chartered Accountant qualification, giving you an exceptionally strong head start on the professional qualification process compared with non-specialist graduates. You will study financial reporting, management accounting, auditing, taxation, business law, and the commercial and ethical contexts in which accountancy practice operates, alongside the academic rigour expected of a Queen Mary degree. Graduates are exceptionally well placed to pursue the ACA qualification and a career in chartered accountancy. Routes include roles in the Big Four and mid-tier accounting firms in audit, tax, consulting and advisory, as well as positions in industry and commerce in financial control, treasury, and management accounting. The ICAEW accreditation means that the degree accelerates your route to professional qualification, making Queen Mary graduates attractive to employers who value both academic quality and professional progress. Some graduates also pursue postgraduate study or research in accounting, finance, or business.
