BAcc Accountancy
About this course
Accountancy is the discipline that provides the financial language through which organisations understand and report their performance. As global financial reporting standards evolve, as capital flows across borders with increasing speed, and as organisations operate in ever more complex international environments, accountants who can work confidently across national and regulatory contexts are in growing demand. An honours accountancy degree prepares you both for international practice and for the wider range of careers that benefit from a rigorous business and financial education. At the University of Dundee, this four-year full-time BAcc Honours programme is designed with the international dimension at its centre. You will develop a critical awareness of the concepts underpinning accounting and finance practices, alongside the technical expertise in financial reporting, management accounting, auditing, and business analysis that the profession demands. The programme also reflects on the role played by accounting and finance in society more broadly, giving you a grounded and thoughtful perspective on the profession you are entering. A year abroad is included in the degree, providing the opportunity to study or work in an international context and deepen your understanding of how accounting operates in different national and regulatory environments. The typical entry tariff is 184 UCAS points. Graduates of accountancy honours programmes are well placed for professional careers in public accounting, corporate finance, management accountancy, financial analysis, banking, and audit, in the UK and internationally. Many graduates pursue professional qualifications with bodies such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, ACCA, or CIMA, and the degree provides significant exemptions from professional examinations. Others move directly into commercial roles in industry, where accounting expertise is valued at every level of management. Postgraduate study in accounting, finance, or taxation is also a natural progression for those who want to develop specialist expertise.
