BAcc Accountancy/Economics
About this course
Accountancy and economics is a combination that gives you both the technical professional skills of accounting and the analytical power of economics, two disciplines that are deeply complementary in the world of business and finance. Accountancy provides the tools for recording, reporting, and analysing financial transactions, for managing the financial health of organisations, and for the professional practice of audit, taxation, and financial advice. Economics provides the theoretical framework for understanding how markets work, how organisations respond to incentives, and how macroeconomic forces shape the environment in which businesses operate. At the University of Glasgow, which has a strong reputation in both subjects and close connections with the Scottish and UK accountancy profession, you will study both disciplines over four years full-time. The programme benefits from regular engagement with guest speakers who are practising professionals in the accountancy field, providing direct exposure to current practice and career possibilities. The combination of theoretical depth and professional relevance is particularly well suited to students who want both a serious academic education and a clear professional pathway. The programme includes a year abroad, giving you an international dimension to your studies. The typical entry tariff is 256 UCAS points. Graduates pursue careers in public practice with major accounting firms, working towards professional qualifications such as ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, or CIMA, as well as in roles within industry, commerce, banking, investment management, and the public sector. The economics training is particularly valuable for those who go on to work in financial analysis, consultancy, or economic roles within large organisations. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in accounting, finance, economics, or related disciplines.
