BSc Accounting and Finance
About this course
Accounting and finance provides the technical foundations for understanding how organisations measure and manage their financial performance. Accounting is concerned with the recording, reporting, and auditing of financial information, ensuring that the numbers on which decisions depend are accurate and trustworthy. Finance focuses on how capital is allocated and managed, covering investment decisions, risk assessment, and the operation of financial markets. Together, the two disciplines equip you to understand the financial reality of organisations and to contribute to the decisions that shape it. At Teesside University, this three-year full-time degree introduces you to the essential concepts and practices of both disciplines. You will build knowledge of financial accounting, from the principles of bookkeeping and accounting adjustments through to the preparation of financial statements for different types of organisation. Management accounting, corporate finance, and financial analysis feature as the degree progresses, deepening your technical expertise and your capacity for financial judgement. The programme also includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement, giving you extensive professional and international experience alongside your academic study. These elements make a significant difference to your graduate readiness and your ability to demonstrate to employers that you can apply what you have learned in real organisational settings. Accounting and finance graduates are among the most employable of any degree discipline. Professional accountancy training routes, including chartered, management, and public sector accountancy, are the most direct paths, and this degree provides a strong academic foundation for those examinations. Beyond formal accountancy, graduates move into financial analysis, banking, investment, corporate finance, risk management, financial technology, and business operations roles across every sector. Postgraduate study in accounting, finance, or business is available for those who wish to specialise further or continue their academic development.
