BSc Accounting and Finance
About this course
Accounting and finance addresses the systems by which organisations measure, report, and manage their financial resources, and the markets and institutions through which capital is allocated across economies. Accounting provides the discipline's technical foundation, covering financial reporting, management accounting, auditing, and the regulatory frameworks that govern how organisations account for their activities. Finance extends this into investment analysis, corporate finance, risk management, and the behaviour of financial markets. Together they give graduates the quantitative literacy and analytical toolkit that finance and business roles consistently demand. At Surrey this three-year full-time programme develops both strands in depth, covering financial reporting standards, management accounting, taxation, financial analysis, investment theory, and financial modelling. Surrey has integrated digital skills and AI literacy into its programmes, building the technological confidence and data fluency that modern financial roles require. Employers in accounting, banking, investment management, and financial analysis increasingly expect graduates to be comfortable with digital tools and analytical methods alongside traditional accounting and finance skills. The typical entry tariff is 120 UCAS points. Graduates from accounting and finance programmes are well placed for careers in accountancy practices, banks, investment firms, corporate finance departments, management consultancies, and the finance functions of organisations across all sectors. Professional accountancy qualifications, including those offered by the ICAEW, ACCA, and CIMA, provide the formal pathway to senior accountancy roles, and many accounting and finance degrees offer exemptions from parts of these professional examinations. Many graduates also move into financial analysis, fund management, risk and compliance, and financial technology, where the combination of accounting knowledge and analytical skills is directly applicable.
