BA Acting and Creative Writing
About this course
Acting and creative writing share a fundamental concern with narrative, character, and the communication of human experience. Together they form a degree that trains you in two distinct but deeply connected arts, developing your ability both to inhabit and perform a story and to construct one on the page. The combination is particularly valuable in a professional landscape where writers often work closely with performers, and where performers increasingly create and develop their own material. At Liverpool Hope University, this three-year full-time programme gives you practical training in acting technique alongside the craft of creative writing in a range of forms. In acting, you will develop your skills for stage and screen, working on voice, movement, character, and ensemble performance with a rigour designed to prepare you for professional life. In creative writing, you will explore fiction, scriptwriting, and other forms, developing your own distinctive voice while learning to shape narratives that work dramatically. The programme includes a sandwich placement year and a year abroad, giving you significant practical experience and international exposure beyond the classroom. Work placements are also built into the degree, ensuring you make connections with the industries your skills belong in before you graduate. Acting graduates work in theatre, film, television, radio, and digital media, and the creative writing strand opens additional pathways into scriptwriting, dramaturgy, literary management, and content development. Many graduates find their careers sit at the boundary between the two disciplines, developing and performing their own material or collaborating closely with writers in professional contexts. Further study in acting, creative writing, drama, or screen studies is also a natural route for those who want to deepen their practice or move into teaching and directing.
