BA Acting and Creative Writing (With Foundation Year)
About this course
Acting and creative writing is a degree that develops two forms of storytelling, the live and embodied art of performance, and the written craft of creating narratives, characters and worlds on the page. Acting is concerned with how stories are brought to life through the body, voice and imagination, developing the technical skills and the personal vulnerability that effective performance requires. Creative writing develops your ability to create original work across fiction, poetry, drama and other forms, building the craft and discipline that writing demands. Together they form a degree for students who are deeply invested in the whole arc of storytelling. At Liverpool Hope, this four-year full-time programme opens with a foundation year, providing a structured academic preparation for students who need to build their skills before engaging with the full degree. The programme is dynamic and equips you with the skills, knowledge and creativity to work effectively across both performance and written forms. The degree includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, giving you substantial professional and international experience that connects your creative development to the realities of working in the arts and cultural industries. You will develop your acting technique across stage and screen, engaging with a range of dramatic texts and devised work, while in creative writing you will workshop your own writing, develop critical reading skills and explore a range of genres and forms. The combination of disciplines gives you an unusual breadth as a creative practitioner. Graduates pursue careers in professional performance, theatre-making, writing for stage and screen, script development, literary management, arts education, community arts and the broader creative industries. Many graduates develop portfolio careers that combine multiple forms of creative work.
