BA Advanced Accounting with Placement
About this course
Advanced accounting at master's level combines the professional depth of a specialist accountancy education with the academic rigour of university study at its highest level. For students who know they want to qualify as chartered accountants, an integrated undergraduate master's in accounting offers a compelling route: you develop the theoretical understanding and technical knowledge that the profession requires while also achieving a degree that carries real academic weight. The combination of master's-level qualification and maximum professional exam exemptions compresses what might otherwise be a longer path to full qualification. At Queen's University Belfast, the MAcc Advanced Accounting with Placement is a four-year full-time integrated programme that combines undergraduate and master's-level study. The structure includes a paid work-based placement during Year Four alongside a work-related research project, giving you direct professional experience within the degree itself. The programme provides full exemption from Chartered Accountants Ireland CAP1 and CAP2 exams and maximum permitted exemptions from other professional bodies, which reduces significantly the volume of professional exams you need to sit after graduation. An alternative exit point after three years awards a BSc in Accounting for those who choose not to continue to the fourth year. A typical entry tariff of 152 points applies. You will study financial reporting, management accounting, audit, taxation, finance, and the quantitative and analytical skills that accounting practice requires, progressing to master's-level work that develops independent research capability and the depth of understanding that senior professional roles demand. Graduates are exceptionally well placed for professional training and chartership with bodies including Chartered Accountants Ireland, ACCA, ICAEW, and CIMA. Careers in audit, tax, corporate finance, management accounting, and financial advisory are all open to graduates, as is further academic study for those drawn to research.
