MEng Aerospace Engineering
About this course
Aerospace engineering is one of the most technically demanding of the engineering disciplines, concerned with the design, development, manufacture, and operation of aircraft and spacecraft. It draws on aerodynamics, structural mechanics, propulsion, materials science, avionics, and systems engineering, requiring engineers who can work across multiple technical domains and who maintain the highest standards of precision and reliability. The sector is undergoing rapid transformation, with the move towards sustainable aviation, the growth of unmanned aerial systems, and the expansion of commercial spaceflight opening new technical and commercial frontiers. At the University of Bristol, this four-year full-time MEng combines advanced theory with practical experience, equipping you with the broad skill set required to solve the engineering problems of the future. You will develop deep knowledge in the core disciplines of aerospace engineering alongside experience of design projects and laboratory and computational work. The programme leads to a master's level qualification, providing both the technical depth and the professional preparation needed to work at the frontier of the industry. Graduates of aerospace engineering programmes work in commercial aviation, defence aerospace, space agencies, satellite manufacturers, and advanced engineering consultancies. Many pursue professional engineering registration towards chartered engineer status. The technical rigour and systems-thinking that aerospace training develops are also valued in other engineering sectors, and some graduates move into adjacent fields including automotive, marine, and energy engineering. Postgraduate research in aerodynamics, structural engineering, or propulsion systems is also a route taken by those who want to work at the scientific cutting edge of the discipline.
