MBiol Anatomy and Human Biology (4 Years)
About this course
Anatomy and human biology is a discipline concerned with understanding the structure and function of the human body at every level, from the organisation of cells and tissues through to the integrated functioning of organ systems in health and disease. Anatomy, with its focus on the physical structure of the body and the relationships between its component parts, provides the essential foundation for medicine, surgery, dentistry and many other health-related disciplines, while human biology brings in broader questions of physiology, genetics, evolution and the biological determinants of health. At the University of Liverpool, this four-year full-time programme includes a year abroad, providing the opportunity to study at a partner institution in another country. Liverpool has a distinguished history in anatomy and human biology education, rooted in a medical school with significant research activity, and the programme provides access to cadaveric anatomy teaching alongside more broadly biological content. You will study the systems of the body in depth, developing both theoretical understanding and practical skills in anatomical investigation, physiology, embryology, neuroscience and biomedical science. Graduates are well placed for careers in biomedical research, clinical support roles, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, healthcare science, science communication and academic research. Many graduates also use this degree as a foundation for professional training in medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, occupational therapy or biomedical science, for which the anatomical and physiological grounding is highly relevant. Some proceed directly to postgraduate research in anatomy, neuroscience, human biology or clinical science. The year abroad adds international perspective and adaptability to a strong scientific foundation.
