BA Animation with Foundation Year
About this course
Animation is a discipline that combines artistic vision with technical skill, demanding practitioners who can create the illusion of life and movement through drawing, modelling, timing, and digital production. From character animation in film and games to motion graphics in advertising and visual effects in television, the field spans an enormous range of applications, and the underlying skills, observational drawing, understanding of movement and timing, narrative storytelling through image, and fluency with digital tools, apply across all of them. At the University of Salford, this four-year full-time programme begins with a foundation year that builds your creative foundations and introduces you to the core concepts, techniques, and digital workflows of animation practice. The foundation year is designed to develop your skills progressively and to give you the confidence and preparation you need to engage with the BA (Hons) programme that follows. During the full degree, you will develop your practice across the different forms and contexts of animation, building a portfolio of work that demonstrates your range and capability. Salford's MediaCity location, which is home to major broadcasting and media organisations, gives the programme a distinctive professional context and access to industry networks that inform both the curriculum and your career development. The typical entry tariff is 136 UCAS points. Animation graduates work across the games, film, television, advertising, and digital media industries. Character animation, visual effects, motion graphics, interactive design, and game art are all common professional paths. Many graduates also work as freelance animators or move into related creative roles in illustration, graphic design, and interactive media. Postgraduate study in animation, visual effects, or digital art is also an option for those who want to develop specialist expertise or explore an academic or research dimension of their practice.
