About this course
Architecture is the discipline concerned with designing buildings and spaces that are not merely functional but beautiful, meaningful, and responsive to the needs of the people who use them and the environments in which they stand. Architects bring together structural knowledge, environmental understanding, aesthetic sensibility, and the social and ethical dimensions of how built space shapes human experience. The profession requires both technical rigour and creative vision, and architectural education develops the ability to synthesise these demands across complex, sometimes conflicting requirements. At the University of Salford, this three-year full-time programme takes seriously the idea that architects should question and reflect on how we use buildings and the spaces around them, proposing alternative and effective models for living and working in an era of climate change, urban growth, and evolving social needs. You will study architectural history and theory, structural principles, environmental systems, materials and construction, and design studio practice, with the design studio at the heart of the programme as the space where all these forms of knowledge come together in the making of architectural proposals.
