BSc Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (with Foundation Year)
About this course
Artificial intelligence and robotics are two of the most consequential technologies of the present and near future. AI provides the intelligence, the ability to perceive, learn, reason, and decide, while robotics provides the physical embodiment, the systems that can act in the world. Together they are reshaping manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, agriculture, defence, and the exploration of environments that are too dangerous or distant for human beings to operate in directly. Understanding how these systems are designed, built, and controlled is a genuinely valuable form of knowledge, and this programme at Bedfordshire equips you with exactly that. You will study the core principles of artificial intelligence, including machine learning, computer vision, and intelligent decision-making, alongside the engineering foundations of robotics, including control systems, sensors, actuators, and the mechanics of robotic systems. A foundation year provides additional preparation for students who need to build their scientific and mathematical grounding before the degree proper begins. The programme develops both theoretical understanding and practical skills, giving you experience with the tools and systems used in real AI and robotics development. Graduates are well placed for careers in a rapidly growing set of industries. Roles in robotics engineering, AI development, automation systems, embedded systems, and research and development in technology and manufacturing companies are natural destinations. The combination of AI and robotics knowledge is also valued in healthcare technology, where medical robotics and intelligent diagnostic tools are expanding rapidly, and in defence and security. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study in robotics, artificial intelligence, or related engineering disciplines, and some pursue doctoral research in areas at the frontier of the field.
