About this course

Biological sciences is a broad discipline that encompasses the study of living organisms at every level, from molecular and cellular processes through to whole organisms, populations, and ecosystems. It draws on biochemistry, genetics, cell biology, ecology, and evolutionary biology to understand how life works, how organisms develop and reproduce, how they interact with each other and their environments, and how biological systems maintain themselves or break down. The discipline underpins advances in medicine, agriculture, environmental science, and biotechnology, and it provides the scientific foundations for a wide range of professional and research careers. The part-time Biological Sciences programme at Queen's University of Belfast aims to provide you with knowledge and understanding of scientific methods of enquiry and the theoretical principles of biological sciences, including the application of those principles in an employment context. You will develop understanding of the relevance of biological sciences in the current economic environment, the hierarchical nature of biological sciences from the molecular level to whole organisms and species interactions, and the need for competence in contemporary biological practical techniques.
