Biology is the science of life in all its extraordinary complexity, examining how organisms are built and how they function, how they interact with each other and with their environments, how they have evolved over billions of years of natural selection, and how the diversity of living things on Earth came to be as remarkable as it is. It is a discipline that spans from the molecular and cellular levels through whole organisms to ecosystems, and its methods encompass laboratory experimentation, fieldwork, mathematical modelling, and comparative analysis.
