BA Business and Accounting
About this course
Business and accounting combines the operational and strategic study of how organisations work with the financial discipline that records, interprets and communicates their economic performance. The two are deeply interconnected in professional practice: business decisions create financial outcomes, and financial information guides business strategy. Understanding both together gives you a perspective on commercial life that neither discipline provides alone. At Teesside University you will study the core concepts of financial accounting and management accounting alongside the broader functions of business management, including strategy, marketing, operations and organisational behaviour. You will develop skills in bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, performance analysis and business decision-making, supported by the use of accounting information systems that reflect real professional practice. The programme runs over three years full time and includes a sandwich year in industry, a year abroad and work placement opportunities, giving you an excellent combination of professional experience and international exposure alongside your academic development. Graduates are well placed for roles across accounting and financial management as well as general business careers. Many progress towards professional accounting qualifications with bodies such as the ICAEW, ACCA or CIMA, benefiting from exemptions earned during the degree. Others move into management roles, financial analysis, tax, audit, consultancy, banking or entrepreneurship. The breadth of the business and accounting combination means graduates are adaptable across a wide range of sectors, and the placement and abroad experiences give them a practical edge in the graduate market.
