BA Business and Entrepreneurship (Extended Degree)
About this course
Business and entrepreneurship is a programme for students who want to understand how organisations work and how new ventures are created and grown. Business studies provides the frameworks for understanding strategy, finance, marketing, operations and management, while entrepreneurship focuses on the mindset, skills and processes involved in identifying opportunities, managing uncertainty and building something new. Together they develop both analytical rigour and creative commercial thinking. At Northumbria University, this extended degree runs over four years and is structured to provide a broad and deep engagement with both fields. The programme includes a sandwich year, giving you extended professional work experience before you complete your studies, as well as a year abroad, providing the opportunity to study at an international partner institution. Work placement experience is also built into the programme, and the combination of these elements means you graduate with both academic knowledge and substantial practical exposure to real business and entrepreneurial contexts. You will study the core disciplines of business alongside topics in venture creation, innovation management, social entrepreneurship and the practical challenges of starting and scaling businesses. Graduates move into a wide range of careers, including management roles in established organisations, graduate schemes in professional services, marketing, finance and operations, as well as founding or co-founding their own ventures. The entrepreneurial skills developed throughout the programme are valued not just by those who start businesses directly, but by employers in any organisation that values innovative thinking and initiative. Some graduates pursue postgraduate study in business, entrepreneurship, management or related fields, often with a view to moving into more senior roles or specialist career paths. The international and placement experience built into this programme is a particular advantage in a competitive graduate market.
