BA Business and Human Resource Management
About this course
Business and human resource management is a combination that reflects the reality of how organisations function. Business management provides the strategic, financial, marketing, and operational knowledge needed to understand how firms create value and compete. Human resource management focuses on the people dimension of organisations: how talent is recruited, developed, motivated, and retained, how employment relationships are governed, and how workplace culture and organisational design affect performance. The two are complementary because business strategy ultimately depends on the people who implement it, and HR decisions are always embedded in broader organisational and competitive contexts. At Wrexham University, this three-year, full-time programme includes a foundation year and a sandwich placement year, as well as work placement experience, giving it a particularly strong practical orientation alongside the academic curriculum. The foundation year is designed for students who need additional preparation before entering the main degree, while the sandwich year and placements allow you to spend time working in business or HR settings, applying your learning in real professional environments before you graduate. The curriculum covers core business subjects including accounting and finance, marketing, operations, and strategy, alongside specialist HRM content covering employment law, recruitment and selection, learning and development, performance management, employee relations, and equality and diversity. You will also develop research skills and the ability to use evidence to support HR decisions. Graduates from business and HRM programmes work in HR generalist and specialist roles across all sectors, including talent acquisition, learning and development, employee relations, and organisational development. Many enter graduate HR schemes with large employers. Others move into general management, consulting, or business development roles where their understanding of both strategy and people management is valuable. Postgraduate study in HR management or business administration is an option for those seeking senior professional or academic careers.
