BA Business and Management for Sustainability
About this course
Business and management for sustainability addresses one of the most pressing challenges facing organisations today: how to pursue commercial success in ways that are environmentally responsible, socially equitable and genuinely sustainable over the long term. It combines the analytical and strategic frameworks of business and management with a rigorous engagement with sustainability thinking, environmental science, social responsibility and systems change. The field is growing rapidly as businesses, governments and investors recognise that long-term value creation is inseparable from managing environmental and social impacts. At Manchester Metropolitan University, this three-year full-time degree is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills and professional attributes needed for a career in sustainability management and related roles. You will study core business disciplines, including strategy, marketing, finance and operations, alongside sustainability theory and practice, circular economy principles, environmental governance, corporate responsibility, stakeholder management and the business case for sustainable development. The programme takes a problem-solving orientation throughout, developing your capacity to apply sustainability frameworks to real organisational challenges. A sandwich year placement and a work placement are both built in, giving you significant professional experience in sustainability roles and connecting your academic learning directly to the evolving demands of the sustainability job market. You will develop analytical and communication skills alongside a solid grounding in both business and sustainability, positioning you to work effectively across the interface between commercial objectives and environmental or social imperatives. Graduates move into sustainability management and reporting, corporate responsibility, environmental consultancy, supply chain sustainability, social enterprise, public sector sustainability, NGOs, and a wide range of roles in organisations where sustainability is increasingly central to strategy and operations. Postgraduate study in sustainability, management, environmental policy or related fields is a well-supported pathway.
