About this course

Business economics with marketing and politics brings together three disciplines that, in practice, are never entirely separate. Economic principles govern how markets operate, how firms make decisions and how resources are allocated across societies. Marketing examines how firms communicate value, build relationships with customers and navigate the competitive dynamics of markets in practice. Politics provides the framework for understanding the institutions, regulations and power structures within which business and economic life take place. Combining all three gives you a genuinely multi-perspective understanding of how commercial and public life intersect. At the University of Dundee, this four-year full-time programme focuses on economic concepts, theories and principles and how they are applied to business activities both within organisations and across the wider business environment, while integrating the marketing and political dimensions that shape real commercial decisions. You will study microeconomics and macroeconomics alongside marketing strategy, consumer behaviour and political economy, developing the ability to analyse business situations from multiple angles and to appreciate how political contexts, regulatory frameworks and public opinion shape commercial possibilities. A year abroad is part of the programme, broadening your international perspective and giving you exposure to different national business and political environments. A typical entry tariff of 168 points reflects the combination of analytical and contextual knowledge the programme demands. Graduates are well equipped for careers in economic analysis, business consultancy, marketing management, public affairs, government and policy research. The breadth of the programme, spanning economics, marketing and politics, is particularly useful for roles that require an understanding of how business, government and public life interact, including lobbying, corporate communications, regulatory affairs and international trade policy. Postgraduate study in business economics, marketing, politics or public policy is a natural continuation for those who wish to specialise or pursue research.
