MA Business Management and History
About this course
Business management and history is a combination that develops two very different but complementary intellectual capacities. Business management gives you the analytical tools to understand how organisations operate, how strategies are formed and implemented, and how economic, regulatory, and social forces shape commercial activity. History provides the deeper perspective, asking how the present came to be, what long-term forces shape economies and institutions, and how decisions made in the past continue to influence the world today. Together, the two disciplines produce graduates who can think both rigorously and historically about business and society. At Aberdeen this four-year full-time programme studies both subjects in the context of world events, both recent and historic. You will develop a solid grounding in business management across areas such as marketing, strategy, finance, and human resources, while also studying the recent histories of Europe, East Asia, and other regions that are central to today's global economy. The programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study in an international setting and deepen your understanding of how history and business interact in different cultural contexts. Aberdeen's location in a city with a distinctive industrial and international heritage adds its own dimension to the degree. Graduates from this combined degree go on to careers in management, consulting, international business, finance, policy, journalism, research, and a wide range of other roles where the ability to think analytically and historically is valued. The transferable skills you develop, including research, writing, critical analysis, and strategic thinking, are welcomed by employers across virtually every sector. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in business, history, or related disciplines, using the breadth of their undergraduate degree as a platform for more specialist expertise.
