BA Business Management and Human Geography (With Foundation Year)
About this course
Business Management and Human Geography is a joint honours combination that connects the strategic and operational study of organisations with a rich understanding of how people, places and environments interact across space and scale. Business management develops your ability to understand how organisations function, how they are led and financed, how markets behave and how businesses compete and grow. Human geography, meanwhile, examines the relationships between people and their environments, exploring how these vary across places and shape human activities, from tourism and urban development to small island communities and natural hazard management. The two disciplines are more complementary than they might initially appear: many of the most complex management challenges are fundamentally geographical in character, involving the coordination of global supply chains, the navigation of different cultural and regulatory environments, and the assessment of environmental and social risk. At Liverpool Hope University, this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, a sandwich placement year, a year abroad and work placement opportunities, giving you a uniquely rich combination of academic and professional experiences across the length of your studies. You will develop analytical, research and communication skills in both subjects, building the practical professional competence that employers in management and geography-related fields expect alongside a strong theoretical foundation in each discipline. Graduates from this combination degree pursue careers across business management, consulting, international development, urban planning, environmental management, tourism, the public sector and the voluntary sector. The breadth of the degree, combining commercial thinking with geographical and environmental awareness, is particularly relevant to organisations navigating the sustainability challenges that sit at the intersection of business strategy and physical and social geography. Postgraduate study in business, geography, international development or environmental management is equally accessible for those who wish to specialise further.
