About this course

Human resource management is concerned with one of the most important assets any organisation has: its people. HR professionals recruit and develop talent, design and manage the systems through which people are rewarded, supported and appraised, and navigate the legal and ethical frameworks that govern employment. Effective HRM is not just an administrative function; it is a strategic one, shaping organisational culture and capability and influencing how well a business performs. At Cardiff University this four-year full-time programme combines a broad business management education with a specialist focus on human resource management. The first year provides a foundation across the full range of business disciplines, giving you a grounded understanding of how organisations work before you move into more specialist HRM content in subsequent years. You will study employment law, organisational behaviour, reward management, talent acquisition, people analytics, and the strategic dimensions of HRM in a global context. Cardiff's business education is well regarded, and the programme is designed to develop both the technical knowledge and the professional judgement that effective HR practice requires. Graduates of business management with a HRM specialism are well positioned for careers in human resources and people management across every sector of the economy. Graduate HR roles in corporations, public sector organisations, charities, and consulting firms are typical entry points. With experience, graduates move into specialist roles in talent management, learning and development, organisational development, employment relations, and HR business partnering. Many use the degree as a foundation for professional qualifications with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Others move into broader management roles where people leadership is a central part of the job. Postgraduate study in HRM, organisational behaviour, or employment law is a further option for those wishing to deepen their expertise.
