BSc Business Management
About this course
Business management is the study of how organisations are led, structured and operated to achieve their goals in the face of complexity, competition and change. It encompasses strategy, finance, marketing, human resources, operations and the analytical and interpersonal capabilities that effective management demands. Far from being merely vocational training, a well-designed business management degree develops the critical thinking, quantitative literacy and communication skills that employers value across a wide range of sectors, alongside the specific knowledge of how organisations work. At the University of Dundee this four-year programme develops leadership skills and the ability to solve real-world business challenges, preparing you for careers across any industry rather than training you for a narrow specialism. You will engage with the core disciplines of management through a combination of academic study and applied projects, developing both theoretical understanding and practical capability. A year abroad embedded in the programme gives you the opportunity to study in a different business and cultural environment, which is one of the most effective ways of developing the international perspective and cross-cultural awareness that employers in an interconnected business world look for. Networking with experts and industry engagement are built into the programme throughout. Graduates pursue careers across virtually every sector and type of organisation. Management trainee programmes, marketing, finance, operations, human resources, consultancy and entrepreneurship are among the common directions, and the breadth of a business management degree means graduates can pivot between functions and industries as their careers evolve. Dundee's year abroad is a particular differentiator for those seeking international roles or organisations that value demonstrated cross-cultural experience. Some graduates go on to postgraduate study in business, management, finance, marketing or a specialised functional area, deepening their expertise or preparing for more senior roles.
