BA Business Management
About this course
Business Management is the academic study of how organisations are created, led and sustained, and how they compete in complex and ever-changing environments. It is a discipline with enormous breadth, drawing on economics, psychology, sociology, law and quantitative methods to build a comprehensive understanding of what makes organisations effective and what drives their success or failure. For students who want to understand the commercial world and develop the skills to contribute to and eventually lead within it, business management provides an exceptional foundation. At York St John University, this full-time three-year programme includes an optional foundation year, a sandwich placement year, a year abroad and work placement opportunities, giving you a richly structured range of professional and international experiences alongside your academic studies. The degree is designed to inspire the next generation of creative, innovative and responsible business leaders, whether you are thinking of setting up your own enterprise, working in a large corporation, the public sector or the not-for-profit world. You will develop the understanding of how businesses operate and how skilled managers contribute to their success, building the knowledge and capabilities that employers across every sector look for in graduate recruits. Business Management graduates go on to careers in an enormous range of sectors and roles. Graduate management schemes, roles in marketing, finance, operations, human resources and business development, positions in consulting, the public sector and the voluntary sector, and the founding of new ventures are all common paths. The breadth of the degree keeps a wide range of options open after graduation, and many graduates go on to postgraduate study in business administration, marketing, management or a specialist field to develop their expertise further.
