BA Business Studies and French
About this course
Business studies and French brings together two disciplines that are natural partners in an increasingly international commercial environment. Business studies provides the analytical frameworks and practical knowledge to understand how organisations function, covering strategy, finance, marketing, management and operations. French is one of the world's most widely spoken languages, with official status across five continents and central importance in European business, diplomacy and culture. Developing high-level proficiency in French alongside a thorough business education significantly enhances your professional versatility and your attractiveness to internationally oriented employers. At the University of Stirling, this four-year programme gives you a thorough grounding in business studies alongside the opportunity to develop your French to a level that enables professional use in Francophone business contexts. You will study the major areas of business and management while developing your French language skills through coursework, conversation and cultural engagement. A year abroad is part of the programme, giving you extended time in a French-speaking country to develop both your language proficiency and your understanding of the business and cultural environments you have been studying. Graduates in business studies and French are well placed for careers in international business, marketing in Francophone markets, European and international organisations, financial services with a French or European dimension, consulting, export management and a wide range of roles in businesses that operate across French-speaking countries. Many graduates also pursue postgraduate study in international business, French studies or a related field, or move into the civil service, international development organisations and cultural institutions with a European focus. The combination of business knowledge and genuine language competence is a genuinely distinctive credential in the graduate job market.
