About this course
Chemistry is the central science, occupying the ground between physics and biology and providing the foundational understanding of matter and its transformations on which much of modern medicine, materials science, energy technology, and environmental science depends. At degree level it combines rigorous mathematical and theoretical reasoning with extensive laboratory practice, developing both the conceptual frameworks and the practical skills that professional chemists need to contribute to research and industry. At King's College London, this three-year full-time Chemistry BSc equips you with deep knowledge and extensive laboratory experience across all areas of the discipline, from organic and inorganic synthesis to physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, and the chemistry of biological systems. You will develop an understanding of how medicines are designed and work, how sustainable materials and processes are developed, and how chemical knowledge can be applied to address global challenges. The programme includes a sandwich year, giving you the opportunity to spend a year working in an industrial or research setting before completing your final year, as well as a work placement.
