Childhood studies is an interdisciplinary field that examines the lives, experiences, and development of children and young people, drawing on sociology, psychology, education, social policy, and cultural studies to build a rounded understanding of childhood as both a universal human phase and a socially constructed experience that varies across cultures, historical periods, and social contexts. It asks fundamental questions about what childhood is, how it is shaped by family, community, and institutions, and what societies and professionals owe to children in terms of rights, protection, and opportunity.
