At Gloucestershire this programme begins with a foundation year, giving you the academic and technical preparation needed before the main computer science degree begins and making the programme accessible to students who may not have studied computing or mathematics at advanced level. Across the full four years you will cover the core areas of computer science, including algorithms and data structures, programming, software engineering, databases, networks, artificial intelligence, and computer systems, developing both your technical capability and your ability to apply it to real problems. The programme includes a sandwich year with a placement, allowing you to spend time in industry between your second and third years, gaining practical experience and building professional contacts. That placement year is a significant asset at graduation, both in terms of employment prospects and in the depth of understanding it brings.
