BSc Computing with Business Management
About this course
Computing with business management prepares you for roles where technical knowledge and commercial acumen are both required. The technology sector is one of the largest and fastest-growing areas of the economy, and the organisations within it, from start-ups to global platforms, increasingly need people who can bridge the gap between technical teams and business functions, who understand what technology can do and what organisations actually need. The combination is equally valuable outside the technology sector, as almost every industry now depends on digital systems and needs people who can specify, manage and improve them. At the University of Surrey, this three-year full-time degree develops your computing skills, including programming, software development, data management, systems analysis and digital technologies, alongside the core disciplines of business management, strategy, marketing, finance and organisational behaviour. The programme prepares you for roles in technology, business, or the increasingly important hybrid space between them, where technical understanding and commercial thinking are equally important. Surrey integrates digital capability throughout its teaching, and the business management component is informed by the university's close connections with industry in the Surrey and London technology corridor. You will develop strong problem-solving, analytical and communication skills alongside technical computing competences. The ability to explain technical ideas to non-technical colleagues and to understand business requirements well enough to translate them into technical solutions is a particular emphasis. Graduates from computing with business management degrees move into technology management, IT consultancy, business analysis, product management, digital project management, systems development, data management, and a wide range of commercial roles in technology companies and technology-dependent businesses. The versatility of the degree means that career paths are genuinely broad, and postgraduate study in computing, management, or data science is a natural next step for those who want to specialise further.
