About this course

Conservators play a key role in safeguarding our cultural heritage, ensuring that artworks, architecture, archaeological finds, and museum collections are preserved for future generations. The MCon Conservation of Cultural Heritage is a four-year Integrated Master's degree that blends theory with practical conservation skills. Students have the opportunity to gain extensive hands-on experience working with genuine historic objects provided by museums, historic houses, and private collections. You'll study in our high-specification, purpose-built laboratories within the University's Peter de Wint Building. During this time, you'll have the opportunity to develop expertise across a wide range of materials, time periods, and collections in their historical context. This programme offers students the opportunity to continue their studies at an advanced level. Year 4 helps you to explore topics in greater depth, including undertaking project work, that is designed to prepare you for professional practice or further research. The city of Lincoln is bursting with history and the city's rich cultural heritage makes it an ideal location in which to study conservation. The course covers a wide range of topics, such as remedial treatment, preventive conservation and collections management, and investigative and digital heritage techniques.
