BSc Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
About this course
Data science and artificial intelligence together constitute the most transformative technical field of the current era, underpinning everything from medical diagnosis and climate modelling to personalised recommendation systems and autonomous vehicles. Data science develops the skills to collect, clean, analyse and visualise data and to extract meaningful insight from it. Artificial intelligence provides the theoretical and practical tools to build systems that learn from data, recognise patterns, make predictions and solve problems that would defeat rule-based approaches. Together they give you a comprehensive command of the methods reshaping every sector of the economy and society. At Leeds Beckett University this part-time programme teaches you both the technical competence to work with data and AI systems, and the critical judgement to use them responsibly. You will develop practical skills in programming, statistics, machine learning and data analysis alongside an understanding of the ethical, social and legal dimensions of deploying AI in real-world contexts. The programme includes a sandwich year and work placement opportunities, as well as a year abroad, giving you professional and international experience that substantially extends your academic development. Graduates of data science and AI programmes are in high and growing demand across every sector. Technology companies, financial services, healthcare, government, logistics, retail, scientific research and media all employ data scientists and AI engineers in roles including data analyst, machine learning engineer, data engineer, AI researcher and business intelligence developer. The ability to combine technical fluency with the judgement to ask the right questions and interpret results responsibly is rare and consistently valued. Postgraduate study in data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence or statistics is a natural further step for those wishing to develop deeper expertise or move into research roles.
