BSc Data Science with Artificial Intelligence
About this course
Data Science with Artificial Intelligence is a degree that addresses two of the most transformative and in-demand fields in contemporary technology. Data science is concerned with extracting knowledge and insight from large and complex datasets, using statistical methods, machine learning, visualisation and computational tools to answer questions and support decisions across every domain. Artificial intelligence extends this into the development of systems that can learn from experience, recognise patterns, understand natural language and make predictions or decisions with a degree of autonomy. Together, these fields are reshaping every sector of the economy, from healthcare and finance to manufacturing, media and public services. At the University of Plymouth, this full-time three-year programme includes a sandwich placement year and work placement opportunities, giving you sustained professional experience in data and AI roles alongside your academic studies. You will develop programming skills and learn to build programs that solve real-world problems using professional tools and techniques, including writing clean code, testing and debugging. The programme takes a hands-on approach from the outset, developing both the theoretical understanding of how algorithms and machine learning systems work and the practical capability to implement and deploy them in real applications. Data Science with Artificial Intelligence graduates are in exceptionally high demand across virtually every sector of the economy. Roles as data scientist, machine learning engineer, AI researcher, data analyst, business intelligence analyst and data engineer are among the most sought-after and consistently well-remunerated in the current technology market. Finance, healthcare, technology, retail, manufacturing, government and the creative industries all employ graduates with these skills. Many graduates go on to postgraduate study in machine learning, data science, artificial intelligence or statistics, building specialist expertise that supports research and senior technical roles.
