BA Digital Photography
About this course
Photography is both a craft and a language. It is a way of seeing, of framing the world with intention, and of producing images that communicate ideas, emotions, and stories to audiences who may be anywhere. Digital photography has transformed the technical landscape of image-making while expanding the contexts in which photographs are made and shared, from documentary and editorial work to advertising, social media, and fine art. Understanding how to navigate this landscape, creatively and technically, is what this three-year full-time degree at Ravensbourne University London sets out to develop. You will master the practical and creative aspects of digital photography, building skills in camera operation, lighting, post-production, and image sequencing while also developing a critical understanding of photographic history and theory. Ravensbourne's location in London and its strong connections with the creative industries give your studies a real-world orientation, and you will have the opportunity to build a professional portfolio and present your work in ways that reflect current industry practice. The programme covers both traditional photographic contexts and emerging practices, equipping you to work across the range of environments where photographic skills are valued. With a typical entry tariff of 104 points, the programme is designed to be accessible to students with genuine creative ability and commitment. Graduates from digital photography programmes work as commercial photographers in advertising, fashion, food, and product photography; as documentary and editorial photographers for newspapers, magazines, and agencies; and as fine art photographers exhibiting in galleries. Many work across multiple areas, combining commissioned work with personal projects. The digital skills you develop also transfer into video production, visual communication, and content creation more broadly. Postgraduate study in photography, visual arts, or documentary is an option for those who wish to develop a specialism or pursue an academic or research dimension to their practice.
