About this course

Drama and music production are disciplines with complementary creative energies. Drama develops your understanding of performance, storytelling and the relationship between performer and audience, drawing on a tradition that stretches from ancient theatre through to contemporary devised work and live art. Music production is concerned with the craft of recording, shaping and releasing sound, working at the intersection of technical knowledge, creative vision and cultural awareness. Together they offer a degree rooted in making, performing and understanding contemporary culture. You will explore the origins and development of drama, develop your own performance practice and learn how to create new work for different contexts and audiences. In the music production strand, you will work with recording technology, production techniques and the processes through which music is made and distributed in the modern industry. Liverpool's position as one of the UK's most important cities for popular music and live culture is a real asset in this context. This three-year programme also includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, giving you substantial professional exposure and the opportunity to see how both industries function beyond the university environment. The combination of structured time in industry and time abroad builds experience that strengthens your graduate profile considerably. Graduates of this combined programme move into careers across the performing arts, live music, broadcasting and media sectors. Performance, theatre-making, music production, sound engineering, arts management and digital content creation are all natural directions. Teaching and community arts work are also common paths, as are roles in event production, artist management and the cultural industries more broadly.
