BSc Economics and Management with Study Abroad
About this course
Economics and management is a degree that addresses two of the most important dimensions of professional and organisational life: how markets, incentives, and economic forces shape outcomes for firms, individuals, and societies, and how organisations can be led, structured, and managed effectively in response to those forces. Economics provides the analytical and quantitative tools to understand how economies function at both the macro and micro levels, examining growth, employment, inflation, market dynamics, and the effects of government policy. Management provides the frameworks for understanding how organisations are designed, how strategy is formulated and implemented, how people are motivated and led, and how decisions are made under conditions of uncertainty. At the University of Bristol, this four-year full-time degree with a year abroad allows you to study both disciplines to a high level before spending your third year at one of Bristol's partner universities abroad. The degree follows the same path as the three-year BSc in economics and management until the third year, at which point you spend a full academic year studying modules in economics and management at a partner institution. You then return to Bristol for your final year, bringing an international perspective that enriches both your understanding of global economic phenomena and your capacity for comparative management thinking. This structure provides genuinely deep immersion in another academic and cultural environment, which is quite different from shorter exchange programmes. Graduates are highly sought after across a wide range of sectors. The combination of economic analysis and management knowledge is valued in management consultancy, banking and financial services, corporate strategy, the civil service, economic research, and international organisations. Many graduates also enter careers in technology companies, entrepreneurial ventures, public policy, and the growing fields of data-driven management and behavioural economics. Postgraduate study in economics, management, business administration, or finance is a natural next step for those seeking further specialist depth before taking on senior professional or research roles.
