MA Economics with Management Science
About this course
Economics with management science is a combination that brings together the theoretical rigour of economics with the quantitative and operational tools of management science: optimisation, decision analysis, simulation, operations research, and the mathematical methods used to make complex systems work better. It is a degree for students who want both the intellectual depth of economics and the practical analytical power of management science, and who are drawn to careers where both are applied to real decisions. This four-year full-time programme at the University of Edinburgh includes a year abroad, taking your studies into an international academic environment. Edinburgh is one of the UK's great research universities, with strong economics and business faculties and close connections to Scottish and international industry. You will study microeconomics and macroeconomics at a rigorous level, alongside linear programming, stochastic modelling, supply chain analysis, project management, and the mathematical and computational tools that management scientists use to analyse and improve complex processes. The year abroad broadens your perspective and may take you to institutions in Europe, North America, or elsewhere with different emphases in economics or management science. Graduates from this programme are well placed for careers in management consulting, financial analysis, data science, supply chain and operations management, economic consultancy, and the public sector. The combination of economic thinking and quantitative modelling is particularly valued by employers in sectors where large, complex systems need to be understood and optimised. Many graduates also pursue postgraduate study in economics, management science, operations research, or data science, and the programme provides a strong foundation for doctoral research in any of these areas.
