BA Education with Leadership and Management
About this course
Education is one of the most consequential fields in public life, shaping the life chances of children and young people and forming the foundation of everything else societies aspire to achieve. Understanding it well means grasping not just how learning works but how educational institutions function, how policy shapes practice, and how leaders at every level influence the cultures and outcomes of the organisations they work in. The Education with Leadership and Management degree at Anglia Ruskin University combines the study of education as a discipline with a serious engagement with the principles and practice of leadership. You will explore how people learn across different stages and contexts, the role of curriculum, assessment and teaching in shaping educational experience, and the social and political forces that determine how education systems are organised. The leadership and management strand introduces you to organisational theory, change management, team dynamics, strategic planning and the particular challenges of leading in educational settings, where values, professional cultures and accountability structures interact in distinctive ways. Together these two threads prepare you to think analytically about education and to act effectively within it. The programme is designed for people who see themselves not just as practitioners but as future leaders in education and related fields. Graduates go on to work in schools, colleges, early years settings, educational charities and training organisations, as well as in roles in local authority education departments and government. Many pursue postgraduate qualifications in education, leadership or management, and some move into policy or consultancy work. The skills you develop, including evidence-based thinking, communication, project management and an understanding of how organisations work, are transferable well beyond the education sector itself.
