BA Education with Psychology
About this course
Education and psychology is a combination that brings together two disciplines with deep and direct connections. Education asks how people learn, how schools and educational institutions function, how curricula are designed and delivered, and how policy shapes the opportunities available to children and young people. Psychology provides the scientific framework for understanding how people develop, how cognitive processes work, and how social, emotional, and environmental factors influence learning and behaviour. Together, they offer a richly informed perspective on how people grow and learn, and on how educational environments can best support them. At the University of Bedfordshire this three-year full-time programme develops your understanding of education theory, policy, and practice alongside the psychological knowledge that informs good educational design and professional practice. You will engage with child development, learning theory, inclusion, special educational needs, curriculum studies, and the social context of education, building a comprehensive foundation for work in educational and child-focused roles. The programme has a strong record of high student satisfaction in teaching quality, learning opportunities, and academic support, reflecting a genuine commitment to an excellent student experience. Graduates from education with psychology programmes work in primary and secondary schools, early years settings, educational psychology services, community education, youth work, family support, and social care. Teaching is a common next step for those who go on to a PGCE or School Direct route, while others move into special educational needs support, learning mentoring, and educational research. The psychological dimension of the degree is valuable in any role that involves understanding how people learn, develop, and respond to their environments. Some graduates continue to postgraduate study in education, psychology, or child development, deepening their expertise for specialist professional or research careers.
