BA Fashion Marketing and Promotion
About this course
Fashion Marketing and Promotion is a degree that operates at the intersection of one of the world's most visually distinctive industries and the disciplines of marketing, communications, and consumer behaviour. Fashion is not simply about clothes; it is a cultural phenomenon, a multi-billion pound global industry, and a system through which identity, status, and desire are communicated and consumed. Marketing and promotion within this context requires both the creative sensibility to understand what fashion means and the analytical and strategic skills to reach audiences and build brands effectively. At the University of Northampton, this three-year full-time programme develops both the fashion-specific and the general marketing competencies you need to work in this sector. You will study consumer behaviour and fashion psychology, digital and social media marketing, visual merchandising, brand management, trend forecasting, fashion journalism and content creation, and the communications strategies used by fashion businesses at different market levels, from luxury to fast fashion. The programme includes a sandwich year and work placement, giving you direct professional experience in a fashion marketing or communications role before you complete your final year. This practical experience is one of the most important features of the programme: fashion is an industry in which professional networks and demonstrable experience matter enormously. You will also develop the analytical and research skills needed to understand markets and audiences, alongside the creative and communication abilities that fashion promotion requires. Graduates pursue careers in fashion brand management, retail marketing, digital and social media management, PR and communications, buying and merchandising, and fashion journalism. Many go on to work in specialist fashion marketing agencies or within the in-house marketing functions of fashion brands. Some continue to postgraduate study in fashion business, marketing, or communications.
