BA Fashion Marketing
About this course
Fashion marketing applies the principles and tools of marketing to one of the most culturally visible and commercially complex industries in the world. Fashion is distinctive because the products it sells are not merely functional objects but carriers of identity, aspiration, and social meaning. Marketing in this context requires an understanding of how trends are generated and communicated, how brands build and maintain desirability, and how digital platforms and social media have transformed the relationship between fashion brands and their audiences. It demands creative thinking alongside analytical rigour, and cultural sensitivity alongside commercial strategy. University of Portsmouth's three-year full-time Fashion Marketing programme develops all of these capabilities. You will study consumer behaviour, brand management, retail strategy, digital and social media marketing, buying and merchandising, fashion media, and the global structure of the fashion industry, from luxury houses to fast fashion and sustainable emerging brands. Portsmouth combines business education with fashion-specific knowledge, and the programme takes seriously both the commercial and the cultural dimensions of the field. The inclusion of a sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement gives you substantial professional and international experience: the fashion industry is competitive, relationship-driven, and often global, and the structured opportunities the programme provides to work in real fashion marketing contexts and to study in a different national fashion environment are central to your preparation for a career in this sector. A typical entry tariff of 120 points makes the programme accessible, and you will build progressively toward professional competence and a strong portfolio of applied work. Graduates pursue careers in fashion marketing management, social media, brand strategy, buying, merchandising, public relations, fashion journalism, e-commerce, and retail management across luxury, high street, sportswear, and sustainable fashion brands. Postgraduate study in fashion business or marketing is also an option for those wishing to specialise further.
