BA Film and Television Production (with Foundation Year)
About this course
Film and television production at Teesside University is a four-year full-time degree that includes a foundation year, preparing you for the technical and creative demands of working in one of the most dynamic sectors of the contemporary creative economy. Film and television are among the most culturally significant and economically substantial art forms of our time, and the skills to make them, combining technical mastery with creative vision and professional discipline, are developed through sustained practice within structured academic and industry contexts. You will explore the fundamental elements of media production, including the making of images, video, and sound, developing practical skills in digital software and technical equipment alongside an understanding of professional working environments. The programme combines hands-on production work with the study of media theory, critical analysis, and audience perspectives, asking you to think carefully about how screen media create meaning and how they function within contemporary culture. The foundation year develops your technical confidence and media literacy, preparing you for the more demanding creative and professional work of the degree years. A sandwich placement year gives you extended professional experience in a production environment. A typical entry tariff of 104 UCAS points reflects an accessible admissions standard. Graduates from film and television production programmes move into careers in broadcast television, independent film production, documentary making, commercial video production, post-production editing and sound, digital content creation for online platforms, and the broader screen industries. Many build varied production careers combining different roles, while others develop specialisms in particular areas of the craft.
