BA Film & Broadcast Production
About this course
Film and broadcast production is a practical discipline concerned with creating content across the full range of screen formats, from short films and television programmes to digital content, podcasts, documentaries and the increasingly diverse landscape of streaming and social media. Practitioners must develop both the creative capability to tell compelling stories visually and the technical skills to produce content to a professional standard, working across scriptwriting, direction, cinematography, editing, sound and post-production as projects demand. The ability to work across platforms and to adapt quickly to new technologies and audience expectations is central to a career in this field. At Edge Hill University this three-year, full-time programme develops you as a digital content creator with the practical skills, knowledge and adaptability to unlock career opportunities across film and broadcast. You will work on live briefs, practical projects and research across a range of film and broadcast platforms, building a body of work that demonstrates your range and capabilities to future employers. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and work placements, giving you direct professional experience in the industry before graduation and an international perspective on how screen content is made and distributed across different markets and cultural contexts. Graduates pursue careers as directors, producers, directors of photography, editors, screenwriters, sound designers, production managers, broadcast journalists, documentary makers, content creators, social media producers and post-production specialists across broadcast television, streaming platforms, advertising, independent film production, journalism and corporate communications. Many build portfolio careers combining several of these roles, and others move into arts management, film education or the business side of the media industry. Some graduates continue to postgraduate study in film, screenwriting or media production.
