BSc Finance and Accounting with Placement Year
About this course
Finance and accounting sit at the heart of how organisations are managed and governed. Accounting is concerned with the measurement, recording and reporting of financial information, and with the assurance processes that make those reports trustworthy. Finance asks broader questions about how capital is allocated, how assets are priced, how risk is managed and how investment decisions are made. Together they provide the quantitative and analytical foundations for careers across financial services, corporate management, public sector finance, banking, investment and consultancy. This four-year full-time degree at Brunel University London includes a foundation year and a placement year, giving you both a structured academic start and substantial professional work experience. The foundation year develops the quantitative, analytical and academic skills needed to engage with degree-level finance and accounting, while the placement year provides real-world application of what you have studied. Throughout the programme you will develop knowledge of financial reporting, management accounting, corporate finance, financial markets and investment, alongside the quantitative and analytical skills that both professions increasingly demand. The degree is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills and insights needed to pursue careers in accountancy and across the financial sector. Graduates are well placed for careers in accountancy practice, corporate finance, banking, investment management, financial analysis, treasury management, public sector finance and financial consultancy. The degree provides a strong foundation for professional accountancy qualifications, including those of the major UK accountancy bodies, which many graduates pursue alongside graduate employment. Further study at postgraduate level in finance, accounting or financial economics is an option for those who wish to develop specialist expertise in particular areas of the field.
