BSc Finance (FinTech) with Year Abroad
About this course
Finance with a specialism in financial technology, commonly known as FinTech, sits at the meeting point of two rapidly evolving fields. Finance concerns the management of capital, risk and investment, encompassing corporate finance, financial markets, banking and the quantitative tools through which financial decisions are modelled and evaluated. FinTech applies digital technology, from artificial intelligence and blockchain to payments infrastructure and algorithmic trading, to transform how financial services are delivered. Understanding both positions you well for a financial services sector that is undergoing fundamental change. At the University of Reading, this four-year full-time programme includes an international element, as reflected in its title, giving you exposure to financial systems and technology in an international context. You will study financial theory, investment analysis, financial markets and institutions, and corporate finance alongside the technological dimensions of modern financial services, including digital payments, data analytics, regulatory technology and the architecture of financial technology platforms. The programme develops both your quantitative analytical skills and your understanding of how technology is reshaping the industries in which those skills are applied. Graduates are well placed for careers in banking, investment management, financial technology companies, consultancy, regulatory bodies and the growing number of start-ups and established companies working at the intersection of technology and finance. Roles in quantitative analysis, product development, risk management, digital banking, financial data science and financial regulation are all accessible. The combination of financial knowledge with an understanding of the technology transforming the sector is particularly attractive to employers who need people who can work fluently across both domains. Postgraduate study in finance, financial technology, data science or financial economics is a natural progression for those who wish to specialise.
