BFin Finance
About this course
Finance is the study of how money moves through economies, organisations, and markets, and how decisions about allocating capital shape outcomes for businesses, investors, and societies. At its core, it asks fundamental questions: how do firms raise funds and invest them wisely, how are assets priced, and how can risk be understood and managed? These questions matter because misaligned financial decisions, as history repeatedly shows, have consequences far beyond the boardroom. At Dundee, this four-year programme examines how large corporations generate income and build wealth over time, with a particular focus on how UK and overseas capital markets function within the global economy. You will develop a rigorous understanding of corporate finance, investment theory, financial instruments, and the regulatory environment in which financial institutions operate. The curriculum builds quantitative skills alongside conceptual understanding, so you become comfortable interpreting financial data and applying analytical frameworks to real-world problems. A year abroad is built into the programme, giving you direct exposure to international financial systems and practices, and broadening your perspective on how capital markets differ across legal and cultural contexts. The skills developed through a finance degree are in demand across a wide range of sectors. Many graduates pursue careers in investment banking, asset management, corporate treasury, financial analysis, accounting, and financial consulting. The quantitative and analytical grounding you receive also opens routes into risk management, insurance, and fintech. Further study, including professional qualifications in accounting, investment management, or financial risk, or postgraduate degrees in finance or economics, is a common path for those wishing to specialise or advance more quickly in competitive fields.
