BA French and Human Resource Management
About this course
French and human resource management is a combination that equips you with two sets of highly transferable professional skills: deep linguistic and cultural competence in one of the world's major languages, and a thorough grounding in the people management discipline that is central to every organisation. French opens access to the cultures, business practices, and professional networks of France and the broader Francophone world. Human resource management addresses the full range of people management challenges that organisations face, from recruitment and development to employee relations, reward, and organisational change. At Stirling, this four-year full-time programme combines French language and cultural study with HRM, developing your proficiency in the language alongside your understanding of how organisations manage their people. You will study French through literary, cultural, and contemporary contexts, building the linguistic competency for professional use, and the year abroad gives you the opportunity to develop your language in a real Francophone environment. The HRM strand covers the core domains of the discipline, including employment law, learning and development, reward management, and the psychology of organisational behaviour. The typical entry tariff is 152 points. Graduates of French and human resource management programmes are well placed for careers in multinational organisations, particularly those with French-speaking operations or markets, as well as in HR departments, people consultancies, and international business development roles. The combination of language ability and professional HR knowledge is particularly sought after in global organisations where managing diverse workforces across cultural boundaries is a real challenge. Many graduates also go on to postgraduate study in HRM, French, or international business.
