It draws on design thinking, storytelling, user experience principles, programming, computer graphics, and audio to produce experiences that engage players and function reliably across a range of platforms. At London South Bank University, this four-year full-time programme begins with a foundation year, which provides an accessible and well-supported entry route for students who need to build their academic and technical skills before entering the main degree content. You will master the skills needed to bring ideas to life, from design and coding to animation and world and character building, progressing to the point where you can create, release, and promote your own games. The programme develops both the creative and technical dimensions of game making, ensuring that you can think about design problems conceptually and solve them practically. The course includes a sandwich year and work placement, giving you professional experience in the games industry or related technology sector before you graduate. The typical entry tariff is 104 UCAS points. Graduates from game design and development programmes go on to careers as game designers, gameplay programmers, level designers, technical artists, producers, and quality assurance specialists in games studios, as well as in virtual reality, simulation, and interactive media. Further study options include postgraduate degrees in games development, computer science, and interactive media.
